Exhibit Thesis:
The pastoral can be presented by referencing occurrences in nature and nostalgia for a simpler, rustic lifestyle. The world of craftsmanship and art-making has changed with advancements in technology; this exhibit will show different approaches to the “modern” pastoral, as each artist has designed their work around the aesthetic or culture of eating, the interaction between user and object, and bringing the handmade back into the home. Some artists focus more on referencing natural, organic shapes and formal elements in creating an interactive, sculptural display, while another looks at aesthetics of food and ceramic landscapes; another concentrates on generous, soft forms that are inviting and meant for general use that will feel welcome in the home.
